A number of inclusive items have been added to The Sims 4’s latest update, which includes new options for trans people and those with disabilities.<\/p>\n

After yesterday’s Behind The Sims community stream – during which EA and Maxis revealed some details about Project Rene (aka The Sims 5) – EA and Maxis announced another base game update to The Sims 4 that includes new assets aimed at making the game more accessible to trans people as well as people with disabilities. A light switch is also added to the game.<\/p>\n
Sims 4 players now have access to a range of new customization options as detailed in this official blog post. There are two new medical wearables in the Create a Sim menu under the ‘Body and Face Accessories’ section, including hearing aids – which come in fifteen color variants and can be assigned to Sims’ left, right, or both ears – and glucose monitors that can also be attached to Sims’ left or right arms, as well as either side of their lower abdomen.<\/p>\n

As part of this update, a number of trans-inclusive customization options have been added. The ‘Body’ category includes a top surgery scar for teen and older male Sims (both masculine and feminine frames), as well as binders and shapewear, which can be found in the Create a Sim menu under ‘Tops’ and ‘Underwear’.<\/p>\n
A ‘unswitchable’ light switch has also been added to Build Mode to increase the game’s realism. Despite the fact that we’re not exactly sure why Maxis included this random household item with all of the other new additions, it’s still a welcome addition.<\/p>\n

Sims fans are thrilled with the new items and customization options, praising Maxis for taking this step forward. A number of Sims subreddit users have commented on the medical wearables in particular. According to one user, “As a type 1 diabetic, I am thrilled to see continuous glucose monitors in the game,” another added: “Finally, some deaf reps! It’s not the same type of hearing aids I have, but it’s still a big step forward!” along with a screenshot showing their Sim wearing hearing aids.<\/p>\n
The story is similar over on Twitter, with several fans praising EA and Maxis in their replies. Binders, top surgery scars, hearing aids, and glucose monitors? This is the best update since feminine clothing can be worn with masculine frames and vice versa,” one Twitter user said. Another said, “Love the new medical wearables.
