Baldur’s Gate 3: Long and Short Rests

Rests Are the Way to Regain Spells and Health in BG3

It is important to know how to take a short or long rest in Baldur’s Gate 3 and what the benefits and effects of each are. Baldur’s Gate 3 allows players to regain health and spells by taking rests. I’ll explain the cost, how often you can do this, and what the benefits are.

Take Short Rests in Baldur’s Gate 3

When playing Baldur’s Gate 3, you can rest by holding down the Campfire icon on the right of the user interface. That will bring two more icons. Press the upside-down sunrise icon at the top to rest.

A short rest can be taken twice per day (the lit blue dots on the icon represent how many times you can do it) before you run out and have to take a long rest.

Take Long Rests in Baldur’s Gate 3

Click on the Campfire icon on the right of the user interface to take a long rest. You can interact with the bedroll to trigger a long rest in Baldur’s Gate 3 and talk to your various companions.

Long rests can be taken whenever you want, but you need supplies (food) in order to make the most of them. Long rests also end the day and start a new one, so timed elements can carry on while you rest.

What is the difference between a short and long rest?

Each time you trigger a short or long rest, Baldur’s Gate 3 will respond differently.

BG3 Long Rests:

A long rest is important but you need supplies, otherwise, your health and spell slots are only half restored, and you won’t get your short rests back. Whenever you find something remotely labeled as food in Baldur’s Gate 3, put it into your inventory. You can find rum, cheese wheels, fish heads, and other items in this game.
