It’s easy to wonder how to get better performance out of your PS4 or PS4 Pro. There are a few things you can do to make sure your PS4 runs at its best, even if you can’t upgrade it like a gaming PC.
Here are some ways to boost the performance of your PS4:
1. Clear the dust and debris from the fan.
It’s the PS4 fans that cool the console, so if they’re filthy, they won’t work. To clean the fan, you will need to open the PS4 case. There are many tutorials online that can show you how to do this.
2. Update your PS4’s system software.
Sony regularly releases software updates for the PS4 that can improve performance and fix bugs. To update your PS4’s system software, go to Settings > System > System Software > Automatic Downloads and make sure that Automatic Updates is turned on.
3. Delete games that you no longer play or need.
The more games you have installed on your PS4, the more data the console has to load, which can slow down performance. To delete a game, go to Library > Games and select the game that you want to delete. Then, press the Options button and select Delete.
4. Close all running apps.
Even if you are not actively using an app, it can still be running in the background and using up resources. To close all running apps, double-tap the PS button and select Close All.
5. Upgrade your PS4’s hard drive.
If you have a lot of games installed on your PS4, you may want to consider upgrading the hard drive to a larger capacity. This will give you more space to install games and will also improve performance, as the console will not have to work as hard to access the data.
6. Enable Boost Mode (PS4 Pro).
If you have a PS4 Pro, there is a setting called Boost Mode that can improve performance of games that were not specifically designed for the PS4 Pro. To enable Boost Mode, go to Settings > System > System > Boost Mode and turn it on.
