Diamonds in Minecraft: How to Find Them

Minecraft Diamonds Hidden Underground

The diamonds in Minecraft are extremely valuable and useful, so if you know how to find them, you can become pretty formidable. Diamonds can be hard to find because they’re often found deep underground. Among the Minecraft resource tiers are diamonds, which are used to make excellent items like Diamond Swords and Diamond Pickaxes.

In Minecraft, the basic method for finding diamonds hasn’t changed since Caves and Cliffs changed how diamonds are generated.

Finding Diamonds in Minecraft

Since the lowest five layers of Minecraft are mostly bedrock, you can mine from Y16 to Y-59. Diamonds can be found around Y-50 to Y-59. Diamonds can’t be found with Stone and Wood tools.

Diamonds are easier to obtain even though Minecraft Netherite is the strongest weapon and armor material.

The process of finding diamonds, even for the most experienced miner/explorer, takes time, so here are some additional tips.

  • Check Your Coordinates for the Correct Level

Make sure your character’s Y-coordinate is below 16 if you want diamonds in Minecraft Java Edition and Bedrock Edition if you are confused about Y-levels.

  • Listen for Lava Pools

You can look at more blocks in lava pools since they are naturally more open areas. As a bonus, if you find a natural lava pool around that level, all the blocks around the pool could contain Diamond Ore.

  • Branch Mine to Expose More Blocks

Digging to the appropriate Y-level creates a long, horizontal tunnel with straight paths branching off both sides. You will see the other side of a block every other block if you create new branches every other block.

  • Discover Caves

Minecraft is also all about caves. If you find a cave system that reaches deep into the world, stock up with food, torches, weapons, armour and start digging! Large cave networks are an excellent way to find diamonds without having to mine.

  • To Mine the Ore, Use a Fortune Pickaxe if You Have an Enchanting Table

Diamonds are expensive, but you can mine more diamond ore blocks with a Pickaxe with Fortune enchantment. You need diamonds to use an Enchanting Table, but it is a great way to get more diamonds quickly.

  • Avoid Deep Dark Biomes

Deep Dark biomes were introduced in version 1.19, and spawn at depths similar to diamond ore. If you come across one, tunnel to the other side, since it only provides disadvantages.

  • Diamonds Can Be Found in Naturally Generated Chests

Besides diamond ore, there are also lootable chests with diamonds in small quantities. There are several ways to find diamonds in Minecraft. If you find a shipwreck, mineshaft, desert/jungle temple, fortress, or village, you can look for diamonds in chests lying around. You’ll be envied by the server if you get enough diamonds..
