Co-Op chaos in Moving Out 2 (PS5)

This sequel is your typical sequel — bigger, better, but still quite familiar. As the title implies, this is essentially the same game as Moving Out, but it mixes things up in some fun ways.

The gameplay is super approachable with easy controls. You pick up highlighted objects in a level and, in most cases, need to place them in the removal truck. A little coordination is required when playing alone or with up to three others online, especially when gimmicks like spinning floors and one-way doors are involved. When players and items get stuck, the physics can cause frustration.

While removing objects is the focus, many stages switch up your objective. Some require you to move things in, while others require you to return runaway animals to their pens. There are several alternate dimensions within Packmore, each with its own challenges and features. At first, it might seem unclear — you’ll wonder how something works or how to move forward — but it’s rare. With stars, you can unlock new stages, unlock new outfits, and even unlock bonus levels. Barge down walls, vacuum up clouds, and throw things onto moving trains to earn stars.

Although it’s easygoing and fun to play with family and friends, the gameplay is essentially the same throughout, which can make it a bit repetitive after a while. Players of all skill levels can enjoy it in short bursts.

The game is designed to be accessible for nearly everyone; you can tweak settings per player, and you can alter the difficulty with an assist mode.

Its colourful presentation, cheeky humour, and increasingly madcap levels make Moving Out 2 a great follow-up to Overcooked.

Pros:

  • Fun gameplay.
  • Various challenges.
  • Accessibility options.
  • Play online and locally.

Cons:

  • Design can be unclear.
  • Physics frustrates.
  • A little repetitive.

This is a 7 out of 10.
