VR Escape Room – The Room VR: A Dark Matter (PSVR2)

You can craft fantastical scenarios and create more convincing environments, all while allowing the experience to take place at home. This VR-only game in the Room series, The Room VR: A Dark Matter, looks great on Sony’s new headset.

In the early 1900s, you will visit a number of locations as a detective looking for a missing Egyptologist. Starting with a barebones chapter in your office, the game introduces its greatest asset: its difficulty curve.

As the levels progress, the complexity of puzzles ramps up at the perfect pace, never overstepping or falling into the trappings of classical point-and-click adventure games. The game offers logical puzzles with dozens of steps to complete, and if you get stuck a comprehensive clue system is available.

As puzzles become more complex, the environments become more impressive. Textures are stunning throughout, and some environments are huge. VR makes the scale very convincing. You’ll usually be able to see other clues or steps in the puzzles across the room, which can jog your memory about where to go or what to do next in a compelling way.

Each level is independent, so the team can experiment with different tones. Early levels dealing with ancient Sarcophagi incorporate horror effectively, while early levels dealing with churches incorporate music effectively. By offering diversified, distinctive experiences from level to level, this greatly enhances the value of the product.

Pros:

  • Curved difficulty.
  • Levels get more complex.
  • Eye-catching.
  • Improvements on PS4.

Cons:

  • It’s VR tax time.
  • Not much content.

This game is 8 out of 10.
