As a result of the latest beta firmware update for the PS5, users now have the option to mute an infamous start-up beep sound that comes with the console.
Currently, this software update is being rolled out to all PS5 beta testers, and as we mentioned earlier, it effectively doubles the capacity limit for replacement SSDs from 4TB to 8TB, which is more than double the previous capacity. Despite the fact that chronic game hoarders were singing the praises of the update, we overlooked the fact that the PlayStation trademark, which has been part of the console since the PS3 days, is now fully reversible.
This golden nugget can be found in the release notes for the PS5 update, where this golden nugget is stated: “The PS5’s beep sound can now be muted or adjusted to the desired volume.”.
Some time in the not too distant future, everyone who owns a PS5 will be able to find a new option in the system settings called “Beep Sound” in the system settings, and I just love the fact that its official name is “Beep Sound.” This option allows you to toggle the beeps on and off, and there is also a volume slider that you can use to change the volume based on how loud you would like it to be.
There have been a variety of reactions to this addition from PlayStation fans, ranging from apathy to wildly enthusiastic celebrations. It’s at this point that you’re either completely desensitized to the PlayStation beeps or traumatized by them, depending on your perspective.
As a personal preference, I prefer the beep to remind me that I have indeed sat on my PS5 controller and that Love Island is about to be interrupted by the PS5’s start-up screen after I have sat on the controller. The fact that there are options, though, is nice.
