We now know a bit more about two of the characters in Silent Hill: The Short Tapes, a game we know of exclusively through leaks.
Despite the information being from the very beginning of Silent Hill: The Short Tapes, now’s the time to close out this window in order to stay completely away from plot details and potential spoilers. The plot details below also include descriptions of self-harm and suicide.
It has been revealed by the leaker DuskGolem (via Resetera) that a detailed synopsis has been translated from Japanese for Silent Hill: The Short Tapes. This leaker clarified that the plot details are from “late 2020” and may not reflect the game in its current form, if it hasn’t already been canceled.
After that caveat, DuskGolem revealed the previously leaked protagonist Anita’s full name and age: Anita Planelt, a 17-year-old suffering from suicidal thoughts. According to the leaked synopsis, Anita is a shy girl who has only known another, more popular girl named Maya for years. When Anita watches “shocking” videos, cuts her wrists, and writes some sort of presumably disturbing story, Maya distances herself from her.
To the horror of her classmates, Maya is found dead by apparent suicide one day. To better understand Maya’s mental state at the time and sate her curiosity about mysterious activity on her social media accounts, Anita decides to visit the abandoned apartment complex where she died.
We still don’t know many hard facts about Silent Hill: The Short Message without an official reveal or tease. Through the ratings in Korea and Taiwan, we learned some vague plot details and saw some pretty creepy artwork. In addition, it appears to be in development for PS5 with Konami as the publisher. Other than that, and especially since we haven’t had any kind of update, let alone an official one, The Short Message remains mostly mysterious.
