There was an announcement at the PC Gaming Show regarding a follow-up game to Citizen Sleeper made by Jump Over The Age. A sequel to last year’s award-winning indie is already in development, so it’s even more pleasing to learn that a sequel is already being developed for it. In addition to hints of an intriguing story built on the premise of the first game, the announcement trailer also offers a glimpse into what is in store for you.
This trailer starts with a phrase that is familiar to audiences: “Wake up, Sleeper.” However, rather than emphasizing the possibilities available, the trailer clearly emphasizes that Sleeper is on the run. Sleeper’s ship is being attacked by Ethan, a hostile character from the first game, who arrives on board to eliminate them from the ship. It is also clear from Sleeper’s exchange with Ethan that they still need stabilizer drugs in order to deal with the deteriorating condition that their bodies are in. There is no doubt that Sleeper has escaped from Ethan’s grasp, but there is no doubt that he will likely be hunted down by others in the future.
Given the multiverse of options that Citizen Sleeper offered in its branching narratives, it’s unclear where Citizen Sleeper 2 will go from here, considering the multiverse of possibilities that Citizen Sleeper offered. As a matter of fact, even the characters that appeared in the trailer might have been eliminated in one of the many scenarios that could have been played out in the first game.
The first Citizen Sleeper game was released in 2022 and was met with critical acclaim for its strong narrative design and compelling storyline. The game received nominations from some of the most prestigious game award ceremonies, including the Game Awards, D.I.C.E. Awards, and British Academy Game Awards. One of the most notable achievements of the game was its winning the Social Impact Award at the 23rd Game Developers Choice Awards.
Neither a release date for Citizen Sleeper 2 nor a platform have been confirmed by Jump Over The Age as of yet. There is no doubt that it will be a heart-warming story with as many tough decisions as the first one did, however.
