The Chocobo mount in Final Fantasy 16 is an optional discovery linked to a side quest that is easy to overlook if you don’t know where to search. The Chocobo, sometimes known as Whiteheart or Ambrosia, is a way to easily cross terrain without fast traveling, and is excellent for quickly exploring locations you haven’t been to before, making it a great addition to the Final Fantasy 16 fast travel system. Just below, we’ll go through how to unlock the Chocobo in FFXVI and how you can use it later. Let’s see how far that chicken can go.
HOW TO UNLOCK THE FINAL FANTASY 16 CHOCOBO MOUNT
While there are several wild and tamed Chocobo in FFXVI, Whiteheart, called Ambrosia, is the only Chocobo mount you can utilize. To get this one-of-a-kind bird, you must perform the following:
- Play the game until you return to Martha’s Rest and Three Reeds as part of “The Gathering Storm”. This will be roughly 20 hours into the main plot.
- Complete the mandatory “Release” favor for the NPC you speak to at Martha’s Rest.
- Afterwards, head to the Fallen Gate at the South of Martha’s Rest.
- Here you’ll find an NPC called Rowan with a side quest, marked with a green “+” icon. Checking it on the map reveals it’s called “The White-Winged Wonder.”
- Accept the quest and head to the centre of the area marked to find the “White Chocobo Pinion.”
- Follow the route and head to Crooked Nash’s Pier at the end of this route to find Poachers attacking Chocobos.
- Defeat all the Poachers to finish the quest and unlock the Chocobo mount!
It’s a rather straightforward assignment; the challenging part is realizing that this seemingly little and easy to overlook side objective is linked to something as special and useful as a mount. A larger Poacher who acts as a miniboss is also present, but they should be manageable given their slowness and ease of avoidance. Try purchasing some potions or upgrades from Martha’s Rest or the Hideaway if they’re causing you problems.
After completing this quest, you’ll be able to call Ambrosia the Chocobo whenever you want by holding R3, which makes her approach you so you can use X to get into the saddle. Remember that she must be outside and in the wild for you to summon her at any time.
Ambrosia cannot also play a significant role in conflict. While you’re riding on her back, you can strike with her by using the Square button, but it’s a very weak attack that just serves to push little foes aside. Once actual combat starts, Clive will dismount, and Ambrosia will disappear. It’s annoying, but it also means Ambrosia cannot be killed, which keeps things easier.
