Diablo 4: Summoning a Golem

Do you want to know how to summon your Diablo 4 Golem? Let’s start by making sure you’re the right class and level. The Golem is an exclusive summon available only to Necromancers via the Book of the Dead. You won’t be able to summon it until you reach level 25, however. The Necromancer’s Book of the Dead will be ready to receive the new summon when you receive a Priority Quest called ‘Necromancer: Call of the Underworld’.

The Golem summon is an essential component of our best Necromancer build, so it’s well worth taking a break from the campaign to get it. While your decrepit glass cannon deals powerful Bone and Curse damage, this powerful summon can soak up damage from all but the strongest enemies in Diablo 4. Now that you know where to find the Diablo 4 Golem and how to summon it, let’s explore how to use it.

Diablo 4 Golem Location

When you reach level 25 as a Necromancer in Diablo 4, the Golem ability unlocks. The barbarian class is the only one that can use this ability, as well as the mechanic to swap weapons. The Necromancer: Call of the Underworld quest will appear in your Diablo 4 quest log once you reach level 25.

In the northwest of the Fractured Peaks region, you can find a map marker that leads to the Diablo 4 Golem quest. Maltorius is a ghostly NPC you’ll find in the Sarkova Pass. By killing enemies in the area, you will be able to collect 12 Unbroken Bones, which you should take into The Bitter Cave to defeat everything inside. A ritual will then be performed to summon your Golem using the Unbroken Bones and Jar of Souls.

The Diablo 4 Golem Summoning Method

Having the ability to summon your Golem is a prerequisite for summoning it in Diablo 4. In other words, replacing the Golem ability on your active skill bar will result in the Golem disappearing. The first step in assigning the Golem is to open the skill menu – S on the keyboard, or Start on the controller – once it has been unlocked. To activate the Golem, simply drag it to the hot bar on PC; on console, you’ll need to hit the left stick while in the skill menu to assign it.

The Diablo 4 Golem Activation Process

Diablo 4 does not make very clear that the Golem has its own unique abilities. The powerful ally will automatically regenerate after getting downed in combat (rather than having to summon a corpse like the Warriors and Mages), making it easy to treat the Golem passively. Make sure to activate the ability from your active skill bar to make the Golem Unstoppable. In addition, it taunts all enemies within its vicinity and takes 30% less damage over the next six seconds, allowing you to heal up while it taunts them.

Types of Golems in Diablo 4

There are three types of Golems in Diablo 4, and you can switch between them using the Necromancer’s Book of the Dead. Level 25 unlocks the Bone Golem, level 28 unlocks the Blood Golem, and level 32 unlocks the Iron Golem. There are strengths, weaknesses, and special abilities associated with each, and it’s best to complement your overall build with these. It is important to remember that you can only take one passive ability per summon, or you can sacrifice the summon to gain other bonuses.

Bone Golems

  • Option 1: Each time your Bone Golem takes up to 20% of its Maximum Life as damage, it sheds a corpse.
  • Option 2: Your Bone Golem gains 10% Maximum Life and the amount of Thorns they inherit from you is increased from 30% to 50%.
  • Sacrifice: You gain 10% increased Attack Speed, but you lose the ability to summon a Golem.

Blood Golems (Drains Life from nearby enemies to heal and bolster itself)

  • Option 1: Your Blood Golem absorbs 15% of damage you would take
  • Option 2: While Healthy, your Blood Golem gains 25% Damage Reduction and 50% increased damage
  • Sacrifice: Your Maximum Life is increased by 10%, but you lose the ability to summon a Golem.

Iron Golems (An amalgamation of steel that slams the ground and stuns enemies)

  • Option 1: Every 5th Iron Golem attack causes a shockwave, dealing 299 damage to the primary enemy and the enemies behind them.
  • Option 2: Your Iron Golem’s slam attack also makes enemies Vulnerable for 3 seconds.
  • Sacrifice: You deal 30% increased Critical Strike Damage, but you lose the ability to summon a Golem.
