PS4 makes it easy to create or join parties. Any PS4 gamer should know how to use PS4 parties so they can talk to their friends. Here’s how to make PlayStation 4 parties and join them
PlayStation 4: How to Create a Party
Open the Party hub from the main menu on your PS4 by selecting the Party icon. This list will show anyone who’s in a joinable party (including those who have created a party on PS5). To join, select one.
Choose Start Party instead to make your own. Choosing an open or closed party is next. Anyone can join an Open Party, as explained on the page. Closed Parties let you invite only specific people.
Let’s look at each option in turn to see how the party setup differs.
Making a PlayStation 4 party
Here are some options you’ll need to specify after selecting Open Party:
- Name of party: If you want something other than “[username]’s Party”.
- You don’t need to ask your friends to join, so your friends (and their friends) can join on their own. Allow people who want to join to have to approve this.
- The number of players in the party can range from two to sixteen. You can use this if you want to group up with some friends but don’t want to take up too much of your team’s slot.
- Invite Friends: If you want to alert certain friends (or other players) about your party, you can do that here. It’s okay to skip this.
When you’re done, click Start Party.
PlayStation 4 Closed Parties
Things work differently when you choose Closed Party. When you select this option, you’ll see a list of your PS messages, just like you see when you select Messages from the main menu. A closed party must be created for just those people, from an existing conversation.
Start a new conversation if you want to start a closed party with someone you’ve never talked to before, or a different combination of people. On the left side, you can add friends by scrolling through All Friends, running a search, or using a Custom List.
There’s also an option to start a party with an existing message group. Start a party voice chat with someone by opening an existing conversation on the Messages tab and clicking the Party option on the left side.
PlayStation 4 Parties
PS4 parties let you chat with anyone who’s there, no matter what game they’re playing. Changing your audio settings, inviting more people, and starting Share Play are all in the right sidebar. Check out the Party Settings menu to make sure parties work like you want.
Admins can also remove people and tweak the options they chose earlier. You can get back to this screen later by clicking the Party icon again. You’ll get an invite if someone uses one of these methods to invite you. Open parties are also available at any time.
Use Your Favorites for PS4 Parties
When you’re in PS parties with the same people all the time, the closed option is handy since you can jump right in from your messages. Partying openly makes more sense if you don’t want to invite just your friends.
The PS4’s organization features let you add groups to favorite groups to make closed parties more convenient. Select (or create) any conversation you expect to use for party chat a lot. Add it to favorites while you’re highlighting it.
Afterwards, the conversation will appear in the Favorites tab, which also appears when you create a new closed party. When you’re trying to start a party with your friends, having only the most important groups in the Favorites tab will make it easier.
Partying With PlayStation 4 Is a Blast
It’s now easier than ever to create or join a party on PS4. Create one and limit it to who you want to talk with, so you can chat the way you want. Take a look at other ways to get more out of your PS4 if this was new to you.
