A Guide on Getting the Autobuild Ability in Zelda Tears of the Kingdom

The Autobuild ability in the game Zelda Tears of the Kingdom can be obtained by completing a challenging battle against the leader of the Yiga Clan, Master Kohga, in the Depths. While it may seem like a lengthy process, it is actually relatively quick to unlock. Many players might initially hesitate to venture into the Depths, but once they commit to it, they can acquire the Autobuild ability early on.

To initiate the quest called “A Mystery in the Depths” and unlock the Autobuild ability, players must first complete a prerequisite quest that grants them the Zelda Tears of the Kingdom camera. Following this, they will embark on an underground exploration that leads them to the Yiga Clan and their formidable leader, Master Kohga, who makes a return from Breath of the Wild. Although this may sound like a lot, we have personally experienced it and have prepared a simple and concise guide on how to obtain the Autobuild power in The Legend of Zelda Tears of the Kingdom.

How to Get Autobuild in Zelda Tears of the Kingdom

Here’s a basic explanation of the process to obtain Autobuild in Zelda Tears of the Kingdom, and we will provide more detailed information in the following sections.

  • Complete the “Camerawork in the Depths” quest
  • Talk to Josha at Lookout Landing to start “A Mystery in The Depths”
  • Travel to the Iayusus Lightroot in the Depths
  • Continue following the forward-facing direction of the statues, using Brightbloom Seeds to light the way
  • Activate the Great Abandoned Central Mine waypoint
  • Battle Master Kohga

While we acknowledge that the process is not as straightforward as we make it sound, it is also not as complicated as one might fear. Now let’s delve into the details.

Zelda Tears of the Kingdom Autobuild Map Location

To unlock the Autobuild ability in Zelda Tears of the Kingdom, you need to follow a series of large statues located in The Depths. These statues will guide you to the Abandoned Central Mines, which we have marked on the map provided. We suggest starting your journey from the Iayusus Lightroot, as it is the logical continuation from where your previous exploration in The Depths with Robbie ended. From this point, you will find more statues that lead deeper into The Depths.

To successfully complete the quest “A Mystery in The Depths,” it is important to be well-prepared. Make sure you have an ample supply of Brightbloom Seeds, arrows, and curative meals created with Sundelion. Our guide on curing Gloom-Borne Illness in Zelda Tears of the Kingdom offers a delicious recipe for Sunny Veggie Porridge, which helps restore damage caused by stepping on gloom puddles or being attacked by enemies in The Depths. Additionally, consider equipping the Radiant Shirt and Tights to improve visibility of Link in the darker sections of the map.

Furthermore, it is advisable to have powerful weapon fusions to combat the enemies you will encounter in The Depths. Prioritize spears or weapons that allow you to attack from a distance without getting too close to the foes. Stock up on Bomb Flowers, which can be thrown or shot at groups of enemies from a distance. Utilize your Zelda Tears of the Kingdom Fuse ability to create potent weapons that deal more damage and have increased durability compared to basic ones. These weapons will be essential to defeat Master Kohga swiftly.

How to Beat Master Kohga in Zelda Tears of the Kingdom

Once you acquire the Autobuild ability in Zelda Tears of the Kingdom, you will encounter an ambush by Master Kohga. His attack pattern is relatively straightforward, and by utilizing Autobuild to construct a cart with wheels, defeating him becomes much easier compared to battling a Zelda Tears of the Kingdom Frost Gleeok.

Master Kohga’s primary attack involves attempting to run over Link with a spiked steamroller-like vehicle. He will relentlessly pursue you with this vehicle until you construct an Autobuild structure and stand on top of it. Swiftly build the structure to make him freeze in his tracks.

Once immobilized, Master Kohga will stand still and begin conjuring a massive metal ball to throw at you. Take advantage of this opportunity by shooting him with an arrow. Attaching an Aerocuda Eye to the arrow can turn it into a homing projectile, and a single hit will stun him, causing him to fall off the steamroller. While he is stunned, you can unleash attacks on him. You can either continue shooting arrows if you have a clear line of sight or quickly approach him and strike him with your most powerful or fastest weapons. Speed is more important than raw damage in this encounter, as after a few seconds, he will vanish and reappear on his steamroller at the opposite side of the arena.

When Master Kohga reaches half of his health, his attack pattern will slightly change. He will reinforce the front and sides of his vehicle with arrow-proof windows. In this situation, it is best to wait for him to charge at you and then dodge to the side at the last moment. Since he can only charge in a straight line, this will cause him to crash into the barriers around you, leaving him vulnerable to attacks from behind. Seize the opportunity to strike him again, possibly with an ice-powered weapon to gain some additional time. Depending on the strength or speed of your weapons, it should take approximately three stun windows to fully deplete Kohga’s health bar and conclude the battle.

This encounter with Master Kohga is only the first meeting, but once he flees, you will be able to use the fast travel feature of Zelda Tears of the Kingdom to return to Lookout Landing. There, you can showcase your new Autobuild ability to Josha and successfully complete the quest “A Mystery in The Depths.”
