How to Deal With Cold in Zelda Tears of the Kingdom

You can gain Cold Resistance for a few minutes by cooking warming meals prepared with Spicy Pepper in Zelda Tears of the Kingdom. Fires can also be built for stationary comfort, and you may eventually find warm clothes to wear.

During the first quest, The Closed Door, you must stay warm and gain cold resistance to reach one of the three Zelda Tears of the Kingdom Sky Island shrines. At some point, you’ll have to cross an icy mountain, and the temperature will quickly become an issue. As you progress through the game, you will learn valuable lessons.

Zelda Tears of the Kingdom calls for you to reach the Gutanbac Shrine. Zelda Tears of the Kingdom not only gives you fast travel, but you also need the Light of Blessing orbs you get for completing all three shrines to unlock the Temple of Time. However, if you aren’t properly equipped, cold weather will quickly devour your health. To beat the chill, I’ve got some useful Spicy Pepper recipes you can use to stay warm in Zelda Tears of the Kingdom.

THE ZELDA TEARS OF THE KINGDOM: GUIDE TO MAKING WARMING FOOD

Getting some lasting cold resistance in Zelda Tears of the Kingdom can be achieved by cooking warming food. Spicy Peppers will be included in these recipes, which can be cooked alone or with other ingredients. In the cold mountainous region where Gutanbac Shrine is located and plenty of other places, you can harvest Spicy Peppers from bushes. These peppers give you a few minutes of Cold Resistance when you cook some warming food. You will continuously take damage on your way to the third shrine in the icy mountains if you don’t have this.

After visiting the Ukouh Shrine and learning the first of your Zelda Tears of the Kingdom abilities, you can prepare food at any cooking pot on the map or learn how to cook using the Cooking Construct. On your map, it’s the blue mark just to the left of the Temple of Time:

You can also just walk up to a cooking pot, select the ingredients from your inventory, and then stand near the pot to trigger the “cook” interaction. Link will throw the ingredients in, and you’ll get a new dish. Hylian rice in Zelda Tears of the Kingdom adds a lot of vitality to your warming meals, too.

ZELDA TEARS OF THE KINGDOM: WARM FOOD RECIPES

Once you’ve mastered cooking, try these recipes for warm, cold-resistant meals. Before climbing to the Gutanbac Shrine, you can cook them in the Pit Cave.

Here are some good, basic warming meals that are also cold-resistant:

There are a variety of recipes to choose from, so forage mushrooms, hunt animals, or catch fish to cook the peppers. As long as you use a Spicy Pepper alongside the ingredients, you can make the same dish with different ingredient combinations.

ZELDA TEARS OF THE KINGDOM: HOW TO MAKE A FIRE

You’ll need flint, wood, and a stone or metal weapon to build a fire. Strike both flint and wood with your weapon after you have dropped them on the ground.

You can use it to avoid taking damage from the cold once your warming meals run out, but it will not replenish your heart. When you’re gathering items to attach to your Ultrahand or looking through your inventory for uncooked snacks, build your fires strategically in places where you would otherwise be standing or moving about idly.

ZELDA TEARS OF THE KINGDOM: COLD-RESISTANT CLOTHING

Archaic Warm Greaves trousers are the first cold-resistant clothing you’ll come across when you leave the first cold region. They’re one of the best ways to stay warm in Zelda Tears of the Kingdom after you collect the last Light of Blessing and learn the Ascend ability. The Archaic Legwear you start with in Zelda Tears of the Kingdom is also a big improvement over them, though you’ll have to hold onto Link’s shirt for quite some time.

After speaking with the helpful construct who gives you your Legend of Zelda energy cell, you’ll see a hollowed-out frozen tree stump near the shrine exit where you can find the Archaic Warm Greaves. The greaves are inside a glowing chest inside the hollow. Warm trousers will prevent you from taking cold damage immediately.

Now you can head downhill to talk to Rauru, learn how to use those Zelda Tears of the Kingdom Zonai devices, and return to the Temple of Time. The easiest way to do this is to attach two fans to one of the wings, lift it with your Ultrahand to rest on the slope, then hop on board and whack the fans with your weapon.
