The developer Mighty Coconut has created Walkabout Mini Golf, a mini golf virtual reality game. With the ability to play solo or with up to seven other players online, golf has never been more fun. From traditional turf courses to the dark depths of the ocean floor.
You’ll find eight 18-hole courses in the base game, as well as harder night modes and optional DLC courses. Walkabout has a wide variety of obstacles to overcome: ramps, pipes, rocks, statues, stairs, and so on. Each hole has a different layout and a different obstacle to overcome. A number of these holes feature vertical obstacles, such as towers or ravines, giving them their complexity.
You can pass the time between shots in between courses as there are 150-plus custom collection-balls hidden throughout. To unlock custom clubs, you can participate in treasure hunts; these involve solving clues to find the hidden club. You can also practice striking and sinking balls on a driving range and putting green.
It feels great to pull off a long putt or a tricky rebound shot as you receive the satisfying rumbles from the PSVR2 Sense Controller’s haptics. Hand tracking is also pretty good, as long as you don’t take the typical hand-over-hand golfing stance and cover the sensors, which did happen a couple of times – enough to drive us crazy!
With Walkabout, you can customize your VR traversal to suit your needs. You have the option of teleporting and incrementally rotating your view, or you can fly around with the analog controls if you’re not prone to motion sickness. In addition, there is a button for positioning yourself so you don’t encounter any positioning problems.
While the soundtrack and atmospheric ambient sounds are outstanding, the visuals aren’t at the same level: although the minimalistic style is clean, the low texture quality isn’t up to par.
In addition to excellent physics, a wide variety of courses, treasure hunts, and collectibles, Walkabout Mini Golf is an enjoyable virtual reality golfing experience. Join the club with some friends.
