A Pixel Platformer for PS4 called Nuclear Blaze

Developed by Sebastien Benard, the lead developer and game designer for Dead Cells, Nuclear Blaze is a 2D pixel platformer. While extinguishing an out-of-control forest fire, you encounter a mysterious military facility, and decide to enter to investigate.

Our favourite part of the campaign is aiming your hose with the analogue stick and spraying water by pushing square, which lasts a little more than an hour. You will also need to collect a key or swipe card to get through locked doors that block your way and sprinklers that can be turned on. There are only two new mechanics throughout the game: dodge rolling and armour, neither of which adds much variety.

In Nuclear Blaze, you can adjust the hose strength and fire spread speed on the fly throughout the entire game to make it accessible to all ages. In the Kid’s Mode, you can save furry felines from flames while invincible, auto jumping, and auto aim are activated. The Hold My Beer mode is an intense experience with more military turrets and faster fire spread.

With its pixel platforming mechanics, Nuclear Blaze gets all the basics right, but lacks meaningful depth. Despite its incredibly short runtime, it is still a very passable experience due to its wide range of difficulty options.
