The Voice Command preview feature is only available to US and UK PlayStation accounts. In either of the two regions, you can’t access it. Using playground footage, you can record your voice. You can record gameplay with your voice instead of buttons.
Voice command on PS5: How to set it up
Registering your PSN in a region is the first step. You can do it quickly and easily by going to psnprofiles.com and typing in your PSN username. It’s easy to tell what region your account belongs to by the flag beside the username. In the US or UK, you can move on to the next step.
Follow these steps after you’ve updated your PS5:
- To get to Settings, go Home and click the cogwheel icon (between your profile pic and search).
- Look in the menu for Voice Command (Preview).
- Turn on Enable Voice Command.
- Ensure that Listen for “Hey PlayStation!” is turned on.
- It might be a good idea to set the default recording length after that’s set up. You can do this by:
- On your controller, press O to get to Settings or back to the main menu.
- Choose Captures and Broadcasts.
- Select Captures > Shortcuts for Create
- Choose Length of Recent Gameplay Video Clip and pick whatever works for you.
Video recording with voice command on PS5
We’re ready to use Voice Command now that everything’s set up. You’ll need to make sure your controller’s mic isn’t muted first. Simply say, “Hey PlayStation!” and the overlay should appear on top left. Here’s what you need to do:
Get a snapshot of the last X minutes
- Changing “X” to any number less than 60 lets the PS5 capture retroactive gameplay footage.
It’s “Capture That”
- You’ll be able to capture gameplay based on how long the recent gameplay video clip is.
You can start and stop recording
- You can start and stop your recording manually. With them, you can record time brackets more easily.
Select “Open Recent Capture”
- You’ll be able to manage your recently-made videos with this command. Using any video game, you can access your media library.
Voice command on the PS5: A few shortcomings
There’s a few things you need to keep in mind while using the Voice Command feature on a PS5:
- Due to its development stage, the PS5 hasn’t picked up “Hey PlayStation!” just yet. A major drawback of the PS5 is its inreliability with this core component. Video games can take a lot of time, and you wouldn’t want to be screaming at it.
- With Voice Command, screenshots don’t work. The reason for this isn’t explained by Sony. You never know if it’ll be implemented. The PS5’s Create button makes it easy to take screenshots, so this isn’t a big deal.
