Yesterday, Remedy Entertainment announced that Alan Wake 2 is currently in the final stages of development and will be released in the fall.
Tero Virtala, the CEO of Remedy has provided investors with an update on the studio’s progress, stating that the studio has reached what he called “the last major phase of full production to get the game ready for launch later this year.” It has been reported that Alan Wake 2 is still slated for release in 2023, but the release date appears to be slowly approaching in the near future. As of right now, the release date appears to be approaching quite fast.
As per Virtala, the project is currently using a full team, but we will be able to scale the team down gradually as we move closer to launch, so that the project can meet the needs of the launch as well as keeping the team size large enough to meet the needs of the project. “These freed-up developers will contribute to our other game projects that are being driven towards the next stages of development.”
As a point of interest, I would like to point out to you that Control 2, which was officially announced back in November, was one of the six “other game projects” that Virtala mentioned in his statement. As Virtala informed us in January, the sequel to the Last Year’s Game was in the early stages of development and was entering the proof-of-concept phase, speaking about the progress of the project, in which he said it “progressed well”. Control’s groundbreaking co-op spin-off was also revealed during the event. According to the developer, the studio had “continued its steady progress in the proof-of-concept stage” There was a statement made by the developer which said that the studio had “been able to prove key designs for gameplay and have found new ways to use existing assets and locations from the world of the original Control.”
Furthermore, Remedy has also provided a recap of the latest developments in regards to Max Payne 1, Max Payne 2, and everything else that has been going on. The development team did a remarkable job of proving what Max Payne is all about in bringing it to consoles and PCs in a way that is of the kind of high quality that is impressive, according to Virtala, both games will go into proof-of-concept with Control 2, and how they were able to proof what Max Payne is all about in the kind of high quality that is impressive. We have been told by Virtala, one of the members of the remake team, that the team will continue to grow throughout the year as additional team members are recruited as the project advances.
Moreover, Remedy has also confirmed in their announcement that they are in the early stages of proof-of-concept development for their free-to-play cooperative game codenamed Vanguard, in accordance with their announcement, which is also in its early stages of development. In response to my question, he stated that the project has now gained “better momentum” due to some “key hires” that have joined the team since last year. He concluded that the project still has a lot of work to do to be completed, but that there is still progress to be made.
