Do Weapons Break in Zelda Tears of the Kingdom?
Seeing your weapons break as a whole and weapon degradation in Zelda Tears of the Kingdom was a contentious issue in the previous game, and Tears of the Kingdom is poised to bring that argument back to life. The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom: weapon durability and degradation are described below, along with tips for preventing your weapons from breaking.
Do Weapons in Tears of the Kingdom Last?
Zelda Tears of the Kingdom will feature weapon durability, which means that after too long your weapons will break. Based on what we’ve seen so far, this system appears to work very similarly to Breath of the Wild, with each weapon having its own durability that wears down over time in battle until it eventually breaks and disappears from your inventory. There is no confirmation that this mechanic applies to shields and bows as well as melee weapons, as it did previously, but there is no reason to think it doesn’t.
The game now offers a clear way to improve a weapon’s durability, something that wasn’t available before.
Stopping Tears of the Kingdom Weapons from Breaking
The new Zelda Tears of the Kingdom ability, Fuse, allows you to increase weapon durability, unlike Breath of the Wild’s fixed durability.
The fusion ability guide in Zelda Tears of the Kingdom discusses how you can increase your weapons’ durability – significantly, in some cases – by fusing them with other items. According to the gameplay trailer, Link fuses a stick with a boulder nearby, which increases its durability and prevents it from breaking so fast.
This is not the same thing as repairing the weapon – we don’t know if there will be any – it’s just increasing it’s “max health”, as an example. Although it isn’t as much as what Breath of the Wild offered, it might alleviate the frustration of weapon degradation for those who found that game frustrating.
