It is impossible to explain the importance of Ayrton Senna’s career in F1 history without mentioning that he was both inspirational and tragic at the same time. Aquiris’ Horizon Chase Turbo, a polygonal racer inspired by the PS1 system, features an expansion called Senna Forever, which donates money to the Senna Institute to help develop local education programs.
In the same vein as the existing Summer Vibes add-on, Senna Forever is a brand new campaign that documents the driver’s meteoric rise to fame over a number of chapters. Similar to the core release, you must work your way to the front of increasingly challenging grids while collecting coins and managing your fuel. A new twist sees you selecting from three distinct mechanical set-ups, each of which excels in different conditions.
You’ll have to cope with rain and unique course layouts, some of which require precise handling while others require long straights. The game’s existing art style makes both first-person and third-person racing enjoyable. In the Championship Mode, you will use a variety of different cars inspired by real-world manufacturers to race a series of tracks back-to-back.
Without any official licenses, the DLC captures the “feel” of F1, with recognisable sponsorship hoardings cleverly eschewing copyright headaches by not namedropping any brands specifically. All in all, it’s a nicely assembled add-on that both freshens up a very likeable game, but also pays homage to a sporting icon.
