Introducing God of War Ragnarok’s New Game Plus Mode

With God of War Ragnarok New Game Plus, you can replay the story with new challenges, armor, rewards, and more. Here’s how to play it, how it works, and what you’ll get when you go back to the Nine Realms the second time with the God of War Ragnarok New Game Plus mode.

After completing the main story, God of War Ragnarok’s 4.00 update will let players play New Game Plus. We won’t spoil how it ends, but once the credits roll, you’ll have the option to select New Game Plus from the main menu.

Keeping in mind that “after the credits” doesn’t mean “done”. The God of War Ragnarok ending comes with a lot of post-game content. So restarting it could make it hard to get those fun sidequests like cleaning up all the Ravens in God of War Ragnarok or doing the Mystical Heirloom sequence.

In that case, NG+ happens on a separate save, so if you want to clean up all that post-ending stuff, you can go back to your old game.

God of War Ragnarok makes a lot of changes to New Game Plus. We’ve listed everything that you can only do in NG+, as well as how the game will be different.

With the exception of tweaks to certain bosses, New Game Plus mode in God of War Ragnarok isn’t actually harder than the original. Since you’ll have all the loot and skills from last time, playing New Game Plus as normal should be a little easier.

But that doesn’t mean you have to leave it like that. When players start from the five difficulty options again, they can tweak the difficulty from the Gameplay section of the options menu, so if you want more or less of a challenge, you can change it.

There’s a new training arena in Niflheim where players can play as Atreus or Kratos. You’ll also have a bunch of allies to fight with: Atreus, Kratos, Freya, Brok, Sindri, Angrboda, Ingrid, Thor and Thrud. However, these are only available in Niflheim – outside of that area, you’ll only have access to the NPCs that are naturally with you.
