Tips and Tricks for Surviving in Demonologist

Be ready for the fright of your lift because the latest Ghost Hunting Horror Game is here. Developers, Clock Wizard Games, have released their Early Access Horror Game, Demonologist, previously called The Shivers. You can work with up to four players or brave the hauntings alone as a demonologist. It’s your job to explore the great unknown to find out if ghosts are real. Be on guard at all times since the ghosts you will encounter are nefarious and hostile. This Demonologist Beginner’s Guide will teach you how to play and survive within the haunted and confined spaces, whether you’re a Phasmophobia veteran or have never tried Ghost Hunting before.

A Demonologist’s Guide to Playing

Players must first gather evidence through experimentation to determine the entity type. The Tools you are given are key to finding out what lies within the darkness. There is no clear pattern for what entity type will appear each time you enter a match. Loadout must be selected before entering a match. You are given a base loadout and a kit including a flashlight and the tools needed to collect evidence. Items for your safety and/or exorcism are also available for purchase.

You can only exorcize an entity once you know its type. Every map exorcises evil spirits differently. In the Abandoned House, players must locate 5 fingers to banish. Exorcism bonus objectives will change as more Maps are added. You cannot achieve the exorcism until you complete the optional objectives:

  • A candle must be blown out (abandoned house).
  • The ghost (abandoned house) needs to be photographed.
  • Find a silhouette of a sitting human via Ectoplasma Glass (Abandoned House).
  • Get Gun Parts (Hospital).

The Candle and Photo Camera are required, but you only obtain money by correctly guessing the entity type and completing the optional objectives. Before executing their first exorcism, players must correctly guess the entity type through multiple playthroughs.

Controls: How to Use

How to use your Journal (J) to access your Evidence List is the main Control. As you are using the Tools to locate and access the entity type, you will need to either tick off what you have successfully witnessed within the haunted place, or cross the item off if it did not appear. Click on the box to tick it or double-click on the item to cross it out using the left-mouse button. Entity types on the left-hand side will gray out as you go through the list, telling you they are not what you are currently encountering. Click on the entity name and select ‘Confirm’ once you think you have the correct entity type. Once you hit ‘Confirm’, you cannot change your mind.

When you equip the Tools at your disposal, you will immediately be able to use them. Spirit Boxes and Ecto Glass must be brought to your protagonist using the left-click button.

Beginner’s Guide for Demonologists

As of Demonologist’s release, three maps are available: Abandoned House, Hospital, and Cyclone Street. Leveling up is required to access these Maps. You do this by consistently guessing entity types. To unlock the next Map, you must guess the right entity type repeatedly. Players can access the Hospital Map after reaching Level 10. On the Loadout Screen, you can see your progress in the top-left bar. You can level up by competing the main objectives and bonus objectives within a match.

Refer to your sanity bar inside the HQ whenever you enter the Map so that you know how close you are to a Hunt. Maintain your sanity by staying in well-lit areas. You must find the Entity Room before you can begin your investigation. Most of the paranormal activity occurs in this room.

You can explore the Abandoned House’s two floors, while the Hospital’s three floors include a Morgue as its basement. Maps level design makes the House easier to complete and traverse around. As the Hospital is much darker than the Abandoned House, you may need items such as Candles to keep your sanity intact while exploring. Prepare yourself for more scares inside the Hospital than the Abandoned House. Due to its larger size, the investigation process in the Hospital will likely take longer.

Using the Tools to Gain Evidence

  • Spirit Box – To use the Spirit Box, use left-mouse button to speak to the entity. A red demon will appear at the top-right of the Box to indicate that the entity is communicating if it is able to respond. As you enter the building, you should use this first.
  • EMF Detector – The Detector is perfect in located the Entity Room. Through its archaic use of a cockroach, it detects how much paranormal activity is taking place in the room. An entity can be located via a high meter reading by using a gauge of 0-5. The Detector can be placed within the Entity Room so you can record your findings via the HQ.
  • UV Flashlight – Used to find fingerprints against the surfaces. Fingerprints appear as hands, so be aware of that instead of separate fingerprints that may be more difficult to identify.
  • Easel Canvas – This should be placed inside the Entity Room. Occasionally, some types will paint straight onto the easel instead of the canvas, so make sure to check this so you can include it in your evidence.
  • ESG Device – This Device is one of the hardest to use for the fact that the entity can make its appearance and disappear just as fast as it appeared. This needs to be placed inside the Entity Room and you should look for a visual reading of the entity in a single shot before it disappears. To view any findings, either stay in the room or place a tripod camera down.
  • Ectoplasma Glass – This Glass requires you to hold it up to your eyes (click left-mouse button) and search for any visual signs of the entity via white plasma. Paintbrush strokes with a glowing white appearance will usually be left on the walls.

Use these tools first when entering the haunting area: Spirit Box, EMF Detector, Ectoplasma Glass. If you hear a response from the entity, half of the typings will be removed from your Evidence List. EMF Detector will help you find the Entity Room, and Ectoplasma Glass will help you figure out the entity’s type and begin the exorcism. It is best to use ESG Device and Easel Canvas with someone at the HQ, while another placed these items at the Base for the player to record evidence.

Your protagonist’s breath is another important tool. It will tell you if the temperature has dropped to freezing. The character’s breath has the visual indication of fog. This is also a sign that you have entered the Entity’s Room. In addition, you should designate someone to hold onto Survival Items to ensure your survival and sanity. Flashlights, Candles, Sanity Pills, and the Crucifix.

How to Survive as a Demonologist

As you spend more time with the Entity’s Room using your Tools, you’ll find that the longer you spend with it, the more likely you are to lose your sanity. Once your sanity reaches zero, the Hunt begins. When the entity grows violet, it attacks. When this happens, you can either hide within the haunted place or equip a Crucifix (an item purchased in the Shop). The Crucifix must be in your hand when the Hunt begins so that if you are attacked, you will survive. Hide from the hostile entity is your primary method of survival.

Never let your sanity hit zero. Therefore, you shouldn’t need the Crucifix. It has a one-time use, however, as if the Crucifix saves your soul, it will be used and you will have to purchase another one. Avoid spending too much time in the Entity Room. For that reason, you should either leave when your surroundings change, or use Candles to keep your sanity. Always turn on the lights in maps such as Abandoned House.

Since the goal of the game is to figure out the entity’s typing, you shouldn’t try to find the entity directly by aggravating it. Record the evidence necessary for your Journal by using the Spirit Box and EMF Detector to find the Entity’s Room.
