Hogwarts Legacy Door Puzzles: How to Solve Them

With a little math, you can solve the Arithmancy puzzle doors in Hogwarts Legacy.

You just need to do some counting and some math to solve Hogwarts Legacy door puzzles. This isn’t really explained at any point. A code sheet explains everything, but you don’t get directed to it, so you sort of find it by luck. Fortunately, I’ve solved the puzzle doors for you in Hogwarts Legacy, so let’s see what’s going on.

The door opens with a simple count from left to right, then you use the numbers on the door to solve the sums. The creature’s drawings and odd dice mechanism look confusing, but it’s actually very simple.

The unlocking spell you get for Hogwarts Legacy level 1 lock cannot open the door. Don’t panic though, it’s really easy once you know what it’s all about.

You can find answers to some of the other game’s challenges here, such as Hogwarts Legacy Merlin Trials and quiz answers.

The two sums on the door can be answered by putting the missing value on the mechanisms that can be interacted with by digitizing the creatures around the door from 0-9, left to right. The entire process is explained in more detail below, but let’s look at it for now.

Finding the Hogwarts Legacy puzzle door code

In Hogwarts Legacy, you can literally find a piece of paper that gives you the solution to the puzzle doors, but the game never tells you how to do so.

This is the Hogwarts Legacy door puzzle cipher page

1. Navigate to the Divination Classroom Floo Flame located within the Library Annex in a flash.

2. Then turn around and follow the wooden walkway back to the door behind you.

3. Go up a small staircase until you see a chalkboard with a puzzle door on a small landing at a junction.

4. To the right of the chalkboard, you’ll see a blue box. Search it and you’ll find the cipher page.

In Hogwarts Legacy, each magical beast around the puzzle doors has a numerical value, according to the code itself. Essentially, you just need to count around the door edge and assign a value to each symbol. Numbers 6 and 7 seem confusing, but they correlate with the number of legs or other appendages the creature has.

Hogwarts Legacy puzzle doors: How to open them

You don’t need a code to open the puzzle doors in Hogwarts Legacy because of how the system works. You can simply count the beasts around the edge, starting at zero, to find out what each one symbolizes. As a result, you can solve the numerical puzzles that unlock the door.

The first step is to interact with the door to reveal the puzzle. This will reveal two triangle patterns that spell out an equation. You need the three outside “numbers” to add up to the inner number, and some of these numbers are represented by beasts. Let’s take this door for instance:

This is what it looks like for the top triangle:

2 + Hydra (3) + ? = 9

So you’d need ? to equal 4, which is the owl-like symbol. Turn the ? to that.

The bottom triangle looks like this:

0 + 1 + ?? = 4

So that means the ?? must need to be 3, or the Hydra symbol. Turn the ?? to that.

If you know what the beasts actually mean, you can simply get the numbers around each triangle to add up to the one in the center.
