With the Nintendo Switch, you can capture video of previous gameplay, too. Sharing cool moments with friends and the world is easy with the Switch’s video replay. Here’s how you can record gameplay videos on your Switch, and what you should know.
Nintendo Switch Video Recording Guide
The easiest way to record video on Switch is to:
- Keep your console updated. For the best performance, make sure you have the latest version. The video capture update launched in late 2017, so you’re probably already on it. To make sure you’re updated, go to Settings > System > System Update.
- When you’re playing a game, hold the Capture button (on the left Joy-Con). Your last 30 seconds of gameplay will be captured in the top-left corner.
That’s all you need to do to grab a video clip. You won’t be able to capture video in every Switch game, but most of them will. Whenever you hold Capture, an error message will appear. Your gameplay will need to be recorded on an external device with a capture card.
Viewing, Editing, and Sharing Switch Videos
With your Switch, you can watch and trim video clips, then share them. You can access all your captures by selecting the Album icon on the Switch’s home menu. Choose Videos Only if you want to filter out screenshots.
Tap A to watch a video. You can access a menu while watching by pressing A again:
- Linked Facebook and Twitter accounts get the video clip.
- Rather than posting it online, you can send it directly to your phone.
- To make the video shorter, trim the beginning and/or end.
- It lets you save a screenshot of the current frame.
- Also, if you want, you can copy or delete the video.
You can find more help with this in our guide to sharing Switch media. There’s no 4K, but it’s 720p at 30FPS, which isn’t the best quality. However, if your game supports it, it’s a great way to save that “Holy cow!” moment.
