As long as you know how to use face paint in Horizon Forbidden West, you will be able to use your combat makeup on Aloy, and give him a completely new look. The game enables you to unlock face paint rewards as you complete various missions, but you’re never actually told what they are or how you can use them once you’ve unlocked them. Until you reach a certain point in Horizon Forbidden West, you can’t even do anything with them, which can make things very confusing up until that point in the game, since you can’t do anything with them until you reach a certain place in the game. The problem is even more frustrating when you keep seeing them unlock, but you are not even able to see what they look like, which is why we’re here to explain everything to you. In Horizon Forbidden West, if you want to dab yourself with face paint, here is how you can go about that and where you can find it.
Horizon Forbidden West: How to use face paint in the game
It’s important to keep in mind the fact that you cannot use Horizon Forbidden West face paint until you reach Scalding Spear on the Horizon Forbidden West map in order to use it. It may take you a while depending on how much you’re exploring or how much you’re following the story, since it’s the third major area you’ll encounter in the game. Therefore, it is possible to have a number of face paints rattling around in your pockets for a long period of time without knowing where to put them or how to use them. The thing is, when you arrive at Scalding Spear, there is an individual called Zokkah who you will be able to speak with:
You will be able to find him on a higher level of the map, indicated by a symbol that looks like a small pickaxe (it is actually a tattoo needle). He will be standing next to a man who is lying face down on a table getting a tattoo on his back, which, unfortunately, is not an option here. After you’ve found him, you will be able to talk to him about ‘trading’ once you’ve found him. As a result, you can use any face paint you have unlocked up to now for 10 shards if you haven’t already done so. Taking off a face paint will also cost you a shard if you want to go bare-faced for a while instead of wearing a face paint.
This is how you use face paint in Horizon Forbidden West, so that’s it, that’s how you use it. If you have completed a quest, you may be able to unlock a variety of face paints – just make sure you check the rewards section of the quest to find out whether one is available for completing it.
