The Octopath Traveler 2 tips guide covers a variety of topics, including how to manage your Latent Power meter.
Outside of Octopath Traveler 2’s vast world, there are few tutorials. You’ll have to figure things out on your own in the retro classics inspired by Octopath Traveler 2, but a few tips can help. You’ll find tips on managing your Latent Power meter, how to get valuable items for free, and how to handle some of the RPG’s more difficult quests in this Octopath Traveler 2 guide.
You should steal everything you can
As there is no morality system in Octopath Traveler 2, you can steal from anyone you come across. The Thief Throne can steal items throughout the day, though her chances of success are lower for high-value items. Level her up to improve her chances. Osvald can mug people at night and win the fight. Before initiating a battle, check their strength.
You can get free stuff easily by using Agnea’s nighttime action. In this area, she can request items from people and, if her level is high enough, they will give them to her.
Aside from knickknacks, jewelry, and silver pouches and coins, stealing or obtaining basic items by other means is also a useful way to save money.
Make use of your power
Latent powers are introduced in Octopath 2 at key points in the first boss fight. Most players would think they should be saved for boss fights, but don’t be shy about using them elsewhere.
A well-built party can be destroyed by an enemy mob, even in the daytime, and some of the toughest dungeons can break even a well-built party. You need all the help you can get, and you can replenish your Latent Power meter quickly.
You have to roll with the punches
You fill up your Latent Power meter when you take damage. However, if you defend or use a skill that blocks or shields against attacks, your meter won’t fill after the enemy’s attack lands. It is better to heal wounded heroes than to defend against attacks if you need to activate a Latent Power.
Healing items should be used liberally
In this game, you will find plenty of SP-restoring items and healing grapes, and you can simply swipe them if you don’t want to purchase them. Use them in battle when you need them rather than hoarding them for the right moment. When you run out, Castti can create a healing concoction with the appropriate items. She can even blend it with a separate ingredient for extra effect if you run out.
Make sure to be discerning with other items that boost stats and health, like the different types of Nuts and Castti’s ingredients.
Power and profit come from knowledge
A number of characters can gain information from NPCs, including Osvald with the Scrutinize action. Temenos can break their minds, which is handy thanks to his Latent Power, but also time-consuming. Castti uses a level-based method instead of a chance-based method.
No matter what, get information from everyone. It’s sometimes just extra lore, but other times you get discounts at local stores, knowledge of hidden treasures, or even items to complete side quests. If you need information on a side quest, you should scrutinize or gather information. NPCs with quest items aren’t marked on the map or with any kind of quest indicator.
Have a hike (sail and climb)
The second edition of Octopath Traveler has quite a bit to offer off the beaten path. Take some time to explore the region you’re in between story locations. Getting to the next town may be easier if you find a powerful piece of equipment that saves you from having to purchase something in the next town. This is especially true if you find the next town by accident. Some quests and guilds will offer you extra secret jobs, though.
Feel free to experiment
After you find those extra jobs and unlock secondary jobs for each of the eight classes, experiment with your builds to see which ones work best for you. In order to make some potent and deadly combinations, you can use a support skill in any other class a character can equip.
Octopath Traveler 2 is balanced to a degree so that nearly any class is viable in most situations. Therefore, stacking your party with Scholars and Apothecaries might be ideal, but it’s not the only option.
Dungeons should be tackled frequently
Approximately halfway through the game, there is a spike in levels and an increase in job points required to unlock various skills. Besides providing rare gear and a chance to fight powerful bosses, they’re also helpful for grinding levels quickly. This will help you earn job points, which you can use to purchase updated skills.
As you progress through the main story, you’ll usually encounter at least two optional dungeons. These are usually several levels above where you need to be by the time you encounter them. You can level up quickly in them, although they will be more dangerous than your standard encounters, so keep that in mind.
