A Graphorn mount and pet can be acquired in Hogwarts Legacy. There are a lot of fantastic beasts in Hogwarts Legacy. Most of the time, they simply run when you try to catch them. However, there is one creature that is far more dangerous. We’ve put together this Hogwarts Legacy Graphorn guide to help you capture this animal, as well as other ones if needed.
A mounted Graphorn in the Trial of San Bakar
As of right now, the Graphorn is the only ground mount in Hogwarts Legacy. Once you complete San Bakar’s Trial, one of the last few quests in the game, you will be able to unlock it. In order to unlock it, you only need to progress further in the campaign.
The game starts at Cragcroft Shore, which is in the southern half of the world map. You can reveal a Graphorn carving by using Incendio or Confringo on the vines. You must then capture a Graphorn at its den in Clagmar Coast, in the southeast corner of the map. Using your broom or flying mount will help you reach the location faster.
In contrast to most other Fantastic Beasts you’ve encountered before, Hogwarts Legacy Graphorn is a boss encounter. Its attacks are simple: it charges and rams you. The hide of the monster is also tough and can withstand a lot of damage. Only your red spells (Expelliarmus, Incendio, Confringo, and Bombarda) will be able to deplete their health except for Ancient Magic and Ancient Magic Throw.
After you destroy the enemy, a short cutscene will play and you will be given a choice:
- Kneel – This lets the creature know you aren’t a danger.
- Attack – Use your strength to subdue the creature.
By holding down the attack button, you can activate Graphorn’s special charge ability. It will bulldoze enemies and ram through barricades, however, its stamina will quickly reduce.
Regardless, follow the waypoints on your minimap to return to the trial grounds. The quest San Bakar’s Trial can be completed by talking to the Keepers.
Exploring Graphorns: can you capture them and tame them?
Free-roaming players can capture and tame Graphorns in Hogwarts Legacy, but you’ll still need to complete San Bakar’s Trial to do so.
As soon as you’ve done that, return to the Graphorn den in the southeast corner of the map. You will still need to fight the creature there, and the same rules apply (only red spells and Ancient Magic will damage him).
The Nab-sack can be used to take the Graphorn back to your vivarium. This will enable you to keep multiple Graphorns in your sanctuary. Graphorn horns can be obtained by petting and feeding them.
