A Bit Too Close to the Edge With the Hex Gaming Rival Controller

One of the latest PS5 controllers with thumbsticks is the Hex Gaming Rival. The customizable controller uses a standard DualSense controller and features four additional back buttons that can be remapped, short triggers, and a variety of design options. The Rival must live up to its name to compete with the DualSense Edge.

Design of the Hex Gaming Rival Controller

Hex Rival can also be customized in a variety of ways, just as the scuf reflex can. The DualSense comes in a variety of color schemes, including black and white, camo, floral, and galaxy themes. Due to Hex’s design restrictions, you cannot choose from a wide variety of colors.

This design features a matte black body with metallic accents surrounding the thumbsticks and buttons. Gaming enthusiasts will love this design since it has extra grips placed along the back of the main handles. If you like shiny gaming accessories, you’ll love the gold sections on top. They won’t smudge or keep fingerprints, so you’ll feel at home.

In addition to the four remappable buttons on the back of the computer and a center button for setting and forgetting your configurations, the computer has an Iron-Man-inspired panel on its back. The only difference between a standard DualSense controller and a standard controller is the Hex logo on the home button.

The Hex Rival has two back paddles and two back buttons on a raised plate on the back. The paddles are easy to use with small hands. If you have small hands, you don’t have to adjust your grip.

We tested the Hex Rival in both the leafy towns of The Last of Us Part 1 as well as the demon-infested wastelands of Doom Eternal and it performed well. With Eternal’s snappy triggers and the ability to map dodges and weapon swaps to the back paddles, you’ll feel quicker on the battlefield.
