My love for karting games and my love of the beloved Smurfs franchise came together when I heard Microids and Eden Games were releasing a game called Smurfs Kart.
As karting games are universally enjoyed by both kids and adults, almost every IP has a karting title out there.
There are a lot of similarities among them, but developers who understand the franchise’s DNA can make a real difference between a good karting game and a passable one. My final thoughts on Smurfs Kart have been formed after playing it some time.
A Smurfs Kart Review
-
In terms of look and feel, Eden Games has made a wonderful Smurfs racing game.
-
As the game progresses, the tracks don’t offer enough hazards or innovate.
-
There is little innovation in karting as a whole when it comes to gameplay.
-
Online multiplayer makes Smurfs Kart feel incomplete.
-
Smurf fans may not enjoy this karting experience.
Final Score: 6/10
Ultimately, Smurfs Kart is for a specific type of person. The first is a child who loves Smurfs. With the movie recently released, and another Smurfs game, The Smurfs: Mission Vileaf, recently released, the franchise has seen an increase in popularity.
Adults who grew up watching the Smurfs and have a deep connection to the long-standing IP make up the other half of the targeted demographic. This is an enjoyable game, whether you’re playing it for fun or with your children that are getting into the same series you love.
It really depends on your love of the Smurfs themselves if you’re wondering if Smurfs Kart is for you. It isn’t a bad game and nails the classic karting formula well. Besides its beloved characters and charm of being shrunk down, it doesn’t offer anything more than any other karting game out there. In 2023, Smurfs Kart will release on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series XS.
