Sony and Naughty Dog are remaking The Last of Us Part 1 for PS5 to capitalize on HBO. Hermen Hulst, PlayStation’s head, says that’s not true. It’s not entirely true. According to Hulst, The Last of Us was ahead of its time creatively. Because of technology limitations at the time, Naughty Dog’s ideas had to be scaled back.
Naughty Dog wants this PS5 version to be the ‘definitive’ version, according to others involved. There’s been no official word on its release alongside the show’s development. Hulst went on to say that the upcoming TV adaptation of The Last of Us wasn’t the only reason for the game’s recent remake, or even the main reason.
While it’s likely many will disagree with him, Hulst did say that seeing the two releases coincide could be the “Holy Grail” for everyone. Meanwhile, HBO’s The Last of Us got its first trailer recently, but no release date yet. This new trailer shows Ellie and Joel traveling across America. Plus, we got a better look at the series’ infected Clickers. Ellie’s friend Riley and Firefly leader Marlene also came. Naughty Dog games weren’t allowed to be played by Bella Ramsey, who plays Ellie in the upcoming show.
