Mobile gaming is just as advanced as consoles and PCs. For those who can’t afford high-end gaming machines, mobile gaming has become a worthwhile alternative. If you want a more traditional mobile gaming experience, without a smaller screen and touch controls, you can theoretically run most of these games on a PC. Third-party solutions have always existed, now it’s time for the real thing.
Google announced earlier this year that Google Play Games would be coming to PCs, so you can play Android games on your PC. Korea, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Thailand, and Australia got Google Play Games beta in August. Betas were released in November in the US, Canada, Mexico, Brazil, Indonesia, the Philippines, Malaysia, and Singapore.
The mobile games market is huge in South America and Southeast Asia, so it’s great to see Google targeting these regions first. Since the beta app launched, players in this region can play their favorite mobile games with keyboards and mice. Google Play Games beta has a few hardware requirements for those looking to try it out:
- OS: Windows 10 (v2004)
- Storage: Solid State Drive (SSD) with 10 GB of available storage space
- Graphics: Intel UHD Graphics 630 GPU or comparable
- Processor: 4 CPU physical cores
- Memory: 8 GB of RAM
There aren’t all Android games available yet, but popular ones like Just Dance Now, Cookie Run: Kingdom, Arknights, and Asphalt 9: Legends are. Through this new initiative, mobile games will not only be accessible across mobile devices, PCs, and laptops, but also play and progress will be seamless between devices. In some ways, it’s like Microsoft’s Game Pass, which allows players to access the same library of games across Xbox consoles, PCs, and cloud gaming, all while keeping their progress.
