There are diamonds in Minecraft below Y-level 16. Y16 to Y-59 is the range in which you can mine the lowest five layers of the floor (Y-level -64 as of the 1.18 update). They are significantly more common, but still quite rare, around Y-50 to Y-59.
You can break ore in Minecraft with a stone or wood pickaxe, but diamonds will not be found with these.
If you get yourself a full set of Diamond armor, a Diamond Pickaxe, a Diamond sword, and an Enchanting Table, you’ll be ready to face any enemy. If you want to equip yourself completely, you’ll need dozens of diamonds, making it hard for even the toughest miner/explorer to find them. Here are some extra tips on how to find Diamonds in Minecraft.
- Verify the level by using your coordinates.
- Lava pools are easy to find.
- Maximize your exposure by branching.
- Cave exploration.
- Use a Fortune Pickaxe if you already have an Enchanting Table.
- Avoid Deep Dark Biomes.
- Chests created naturally contain a small chance of diamonds.
You can find diamonds in small quantities in lootable chests, as well as in their ore form deep underground. Don’t forget to look for chests lying around a shipwreck, mineshaft, desert/jungle temple, fortress, or village as they might have some valuable items inside, including diamonds.
In Minecraft, finding diamonds is mostly down to luck, although there are lots of ways to increase your chances. You’ll be the envy of the whole server if you get enough diamonds.
