The Playstation 5 Tops the Hardware Charts as Sony Sees a Strong Holiday Period

Sony is leading the gaming hardware race into the holiday season as the PlayStation 5 was the best selling console in October 2022. According to the NPD Group, the PS5 topped the hardware charts in terms of units sold and dollar sales, followed by the Xbox Series X and S. Overall, hardware dollar sales dropped 10%, with spending on video games down 7% for the year.

On the software front, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 became the best-selling game in October, marking 15 straight years. Despite a rocky start, Gotham Knights was the second best seller.

FIFA 23 and Madden NFL 23 were third and fourth, with NHL 23 in fifth and Mario + Rabbids: Sparks of Hope in sixth. In spite of all being October releases, Bayonetta 3 placed ninth, Star Ocean: The Divine Force placed 14th, Dragon Ball: The Breakers placed 16th, and PGA Tour 2K23 placed 17th.
