DeNA and Nintendo Establish Nintendo Systems Joint Venture

With the help of DeNA, Nintendo has created a joint venture company called Nintendo Systems to develop games such as Super Mario Run and Mario Kart Tour. A statement issued by Nintendo in its Six Months Earnings Release for Fiscal Year Ending March 2023 states that this new company will be used to strengthen Nintendo’s digitalization, as well as to create value-added services. Nintendo also “entrusts DeNA with the development and operation of membership services for various devices.” Nintendo Systems will become a “Specified Subsidiary of Nintendo” because the joint venture will have more than 10% of Nintendo’s capital. It’s $34 million USD or 5 billion yen. Nintendo will contribute 80% of the capital and the company will be based in Tokyo.

Nintendo’s integrated hardware-software model enables it to provide enhanced experiences and service outside of its dedicated gaming system, Nintendo said. To provide this experience holistically, Nintendo is maintaining and expanding its relationship with consumers through Nintendo Accounts. Nintendo and DeNA will establish a joint venture company based on their expertise accumulated over the past seven plus years and their experience co-developing multiple services based on Nintendo Account.

To enhance Nintendo’s digitalization, the joint venture company will research and develop value-added services to further enhance Nintendo’s relationship with consumers. In 2015, Nintendo announced its partnership with DeNA. They’ve worked together on games like Miitomo, Super Mario Run, Fire Emblem Heroes, Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp, and Mario Kart Tour.
