A guide on how to change your Nintendo Switch User Icon (Profile Picture)

Despite how lacking it tends to be, the Nintendo Switch hides a lot of its customizability features. Let’s talk about how much freedom you really have with its User Icons.

The Nintendo Switch User Icon (Profile Picture)

Basically, this is how you do it. You can change your User Icon on the Nintendo Switch to a basic background and readily available profile picture from the HOME Menu. From the top left, select the user’s page you want to edit. You’ll see the User Settings. Under Profile Settings, you want the first heading with the nickname and edit icon. By choosing the second option, you can customize your profile with background colours and Nintendo characters.

User Icons: How to Make Them

If you have an Online Membership, you have even more options. My Nintendo Platinum Points are a great way to do this. My Nintendo missions earn you these points. Eventually, you’ll be able to spend them on exclusive rewards. As an example, you can give your profile a makeover with the ever-changing Special User Icons and feel truly exclusive from implementing them.

From the HOME Menu, select Nintendo Switch Online store. You’ll find this page in the Missions & Rewards section, and it’ll show you what’s available right now. Depending on what game it is, these icons may even rotate. Browse the full game catalog using the L and R buttons. From this exact screen, you can make custom user icons.

Remember, every month has a new theme, so we’ll be adding new things and changing things. There are three sections to Nintendo’s icon options – Frame, Background, and Character – when they mention parts on the store. There are sets for all three parts, so they can’t be interchanged. There’s no way to spend points on just one section. For your icon to be complete, all three parts have to be processed.

To access your Icon Collection, click the top-right icon on Nintendo Switch Online. For each profile, the Nintendo Switch keeps track of only 100 icons. You can still have these rewardable parts of a Profile Picture if you don’t have an active Nintendo Switch Online membership. All Platinum Points you earn can be redeemed for any part or set.

It’s that simple to change your User Icon (Profile Picture) on the Nintendo Switch.
