New Owners Take Over Epic’s Defunct MOBA Paragon

Just two years after Paragon’s beta release, Epic shut down the MOBA’s servers due to Fortnite’s success. After four years, Paragon is back, thanks to free assets in Unreal Marketplace and a trademark deal with Epic. South Korean studio Netmarble is developing Paragon: The Overprime, a Paragon rework. The free-to-play title is in open beta until November 21. Steam and Epic Games Store will have it soon, but it’s unclear when the full game will come out.

In Paragon: The Overprime’s Epic Games Store page, it says it’ll be a live service game, with new heroes being added all the time. “A symphony of heroes echoes across the universe in Prime,” the game’s tagline says. When Paragon’s servers shut down, Epic gave away $12 million of Paragon assets for free. This is the first time Epic has allowed a studio to use Paragon’s branding since its release in 2018. After slowing Paragon’s development, Epic shut down its servers in 2018. We called Paragon “stunningly beautiful and thrilling” in our 2016 preview.
