Whether it’s the iconic anime theme song or memorable background music in battles, the Pokemon franchise is all about music. Pop music fans and Pokemon fans will love Ed Sheeran’s contribution to the franchise. Sheeran’s new song Celestial has been released ahead of Pokemon Scarlet and Violet’s release. It’s the franchise’s first open-world RPG, complete with battles, training, and trading.
Pokemon Scarlet and Violet, which launches on November 18 exclusively on Nintendo Switch, will feature the special track. You can listen to the song and watch the video on Sheeran’s official YouTube channel and on streaming services. During his early school days, Sheeran was a big fan of Pokemon, so the main concept of the music video is reminiscent of the doodles he drew of Pokemon.
Celestial’s video is inspired by Sheeran’s childhood fascination with Pokemon, and features some of his favorite pocket monsters like Pikachu, Squirtle, Machamp, Snorlax, and more. Director Yuichi Kodama, known for Uniqlo and Nintendo ads, directed the music video. Fans can find lots of easter eggs in the video, which takes them back to a simpler time when the sky was the limit.
‘I loved the whole world they created; it kept me distracted if anything negative was going on in my life/school. It was a world I could escape into and I’ve been playing it ever since,” said Sheeran. “Even though I’m 31, I still own the same Game Boy Color and play Pokemon Yellow or Silver on planes and trains. Adding a song to a Pokemon game and making a nostalgic video is such an honor.
