One thing Spencer mentioned he’d like to see on Switch is Call of Duty
He specifically likes the idea of bringing the popular FPS series to Nintendo Switch, which would mirror Minecraft in terms of platform availability. At WSJ Tech Live 2022 (opens in new tab), Spencer talked about Microsoft’s acquisition of Activision Blizzard. When the deal gets approved by regulators, Microsoft will own the entire Call of Duty franchise, allowing Xbox to become the exclusive home of the game. Still, Spencer reassured fans that Call of Duty will stay on PlayStation and said he hopes it will come to other platforms.
PlayStation will have Call of Duty,” Spencer said. “I’d love to see it on the Switch, I’d love to see the game playable on so many screens. Our intent is to treat Call of Duty like Minecraft.” For reference, Minecraft is available on pretty much every platform. As Spencer suggests, Call of Duty could go down the same path and end up available on a lot of platforms in the future.
For us, this opportunity is all about mobile. In a world where 3 billion people play video games, there are only about 200 million console households.”
