In all of Roblox’s player-created games, the “oof” sounds are gone. Roblox has already replaced the “oof” sound with a new default sound, according to their Twitter account.
In the years since Roblox first made the sound available to players, it has become pretty damn famous.
Kotaku explains that this isn’t the first time the “oof” sound has been in trouble. In 2000, a first-person shooter called Messiah released the sound.
Roblox took and used Tallarico’s sound effects without permission in 2020, so Tallarico reached a legal agreement. Roblox users have since been charged $1 to use the sound effect in their games, and Tallarico has agreed to continue working with Roblox.
The “oof” sound effect was removed from Roblox because something went wrong between the two parties. Roblox and Tallarico have not commented on the removal of the sound effect, but it appears to be gone forever.
