Our guide to NBA 2K23 and the information we have so far

You’ll find everything you need to know about NBA 2K23 preorders, trailers, and features right here.

As the US pro basketball season begins in October, NBA 2K23 is always a hot topic. NBA 2K23 has been out since September 9, so many are playing it already, but what about those waiting for the new campaign? Here’s everything you need. Check out GR’s NBA 2K23 guide for the trailer, ratings, and feature-set.

How soon can we expect to see NBA 2K23?

It landed early in July. A mini-trailer confirms Michael Jordan as one of the four cover stars. The first gameplay footage emerged a couple weeks later.

No doubt, publishers like to stick to a specific release window for annual sports titles. NBA 2K20 was released on September 6, 2019. NBA 2K21 is out on September 4, 2020. [On PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, anyway – the PS5 and Xbox Series X versions had to wait until November.]. Each of these dates falls within the first fortnight of September.

Our prediction was that NBA 2K23 would release during the first fortnight in September based on past release dates. On Friday, September 9, NBA 2K23 launched on PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch and PC.

What are the new features in NBA 2K23?

Visual Concepts focused on two points for NBA 2K23. First, AI improvements and reworked controls make each build feel more realistic. Second, more accessibility.

Since I’ve been at 2K basketball, we have never strayed too far from two simple facts: You can play the game knowing two buttons.

The result is a reworked shot feedback indicator, which only displays shot timing after the ball goes in or misses. Jump shot animations have also been improved to feel more cosmetically pleasing, making team takeover feel less arcadey.
