How to Get and Use Minecraft Amethyst Shards

Craft Spyglass or Tinted Glass with Amethyst Clusters

A Minecraft Amethyst Shard is a fancy decoration and a crafting resource for making Spyglasses and Tinted Glasses. Mine clusters of amethyst are found in geodes. You must know where to find Amethyst Geodes and how to maximize your shard gains if you intend to find these purple crystal shards. Using Amethyst Shards in Minecraft, here’s how to find and mine them.

Minecraft Amethyst Geodes Locations

Amethyst Geodes in Minecraft can only be found underground. However, you don’t have to dig too deep: they spawn between Y-levels -64 and Y-level 30. If they are very large and cracked, you might be able to see the faint glowing light from a distance, so they’re not that hard to find.

If you’re mining an Amethyst Geode, be alert for smooth basalt. Break through this layer for calcite, then keep looking for amethyst. You can find amethyst blocks, budding amethyst, buds of amethyst, and clusters of amethyst inside. Here’s what they are:

The Best Way to Get Amethyst Shards

A lot of items can be crafted using Amethyst Shards, which are dropped from Amethyst Clusters.

Minecraft Amethyst Buds should only be mined when fully grown, as smaller buds won’t drop Amethyst Shards.

Amethyst Clusters drop two Minecraft Amethyst Shards if broken with any other tool, and four if mined with a pickaxe. Fortune enchantments increase the amount.

The Amethyst Buds and Clusters can be found on Budding Amethyst blocks in Minecraft. Solid amethyst can only be mined with a pickaxe and is decorative. Budding Amethyst blocks cannot be mined. If you want to build with Amethyst Shards, you can make more Amethyst blocks.

What Minecraft Amethyst Shards Can Do

As well as being a posh new building material, Amethyst Shards can also be used to craft the following:

  • Spyglass: An Amethyst Shard placed on top of two Copper Ingots makes a Spyglass. Spyglasses can be used to zoom in on faraway objects.
  • Tinted Glass: By placing an Amethyst Shard above, below, and on either side of a block of glass you will be able to create two blocks of Tinted Glass. Tinted Glass can’t suffocate mobs, but it can be repurposed.
  • Block of Amethyst: It is purely decorative. Four Amethyst Shards can be used to create a Block of Amethyst.

It’s time to dig up some Amethyst Shards and build your luxurious mansion!
